Merry Christmas! I haven't yet read the whole chapter through, but there's an error right in the first sentence: затравленная isn't "poisoned" (it would be отравленная); it's rather smth along the lines of "hunted down".

the right word could be "harried"

"Count Fredericks — you know, one of those court ministers"

Fredericks was the Minister of the Imperial Court and Properites. So "министр Двора" was his actual postion.

Why Feodan? (Rather than Feofan or Theophan or something?)

Some more bugs:
- Count Frederiks was not "one of those court ministers" - he was the Minister of the Court, dealing with all Court-related matters (ceremonies, etc.) and managing the Royal Family's properties.
- "слуга царю, отец солдатам" is a quotation from Lermontov's poem 'Borodino' ("Полковник наш рожден был хватом // Слуга царю, отец солдатам...").
- "пОлно горе горевать" (also a quotation, from a soldiers' song): "полно" here means "хватит", i.e. "enough of woe" rather than "full of woe".
- I happened to treat...
- "Подумаешь!" is closer to "Big deal!" than to "Just think!" (it would be smth like "Подумать только!")

And by the way, why do you render Феофан as Feodan rather than Theophan? Just curious :)

В четвертом часу is not "at four", it is "past three o'clock"

tort is defined in Webster dictionary as a wrongful act, injury or damage, and has nothing to do with Russian торт which is a cream pie. Also "cut out" is not exactly the preposition you may use here. You "cut out" something from, for example, a cardboard. And here Ilf and Pterov compare the city lying below with a pie already cut up (creating the impression of the city being ready to be consumed by the criminals)

спешившимся антилоповцам - not "hurried" but dismounted (from сп'ешиться, not from спешить)

Musogorski - Musorgsky

пятясь - walking backwards (where does "weaving" come from?)

пожарная часть - firefighting station

изящное - refined or fine

займ is not just a collection of money; it is the State bonds purchasing which was mandatory for all employees

правлениe - the Board
лекции - lectures (e.g. about current political situation)

служащие - not necessarily civil servants. Any employee not involved in physical labour was служащий.

- not just "some more work to do". They mean that he must be given some "общественная работа".

местком - local committee. Executive council would be исполком.

бытие определяет сознание - a key point of Marxist ideology. "One's social condition determines one's way of thought."

Seconded on all points, with a couple of minor additions:
- местком is specifically a trade-union local committee (местный комитет профсоюза)
- "бытие определяет сознание" is a direct quote from Marx; a standard English translation is apparently "[social] being determines consciousness"

- "OK, it does not have to be Purishkevich. I would even agree to Milyukov."

Одуревший от тяжелых снов - not "слов"! he was feeling spacey because of his horrible dreams

отзывчивому - sympathetic

бессребреник - a selfless, non-greedy person

Лиловый - violet, purple

ответственных работников - executives

отпуск - vacation

томными - wistful

- Mukhin was frowning.

"Что ж! Рублей двести пятьдесят музей за нее даст." - Why, they might give me around 250 roubles (note that it is "рублей двести пятьдесят", not "двести пятьдесят рублей")

"Дед Пахом и трактор в ночном". To take horses "в ночное" means to take them out to graze in the fileds overnight. Naturally, this does not make any sense with a tractor. Remember our discussion about "The Steel Udder" literary group and the "village" writers who knew nothing of the village life. The same case here.

"Тысячи полторы": the situation is the same as with "рублей двести пятьдесят" - the syntax suggests an approximate figure, "some fifteen hundred".
